Benchmark Evidence Status
HP Omen Max 16
Specifications-only for this exact retail SKU. The available `16-ah0070ca` dataset is useful for that named Canadian configuration, but it cannot establish FPS for B64BNUA#ABA.
MSI Vector 16 HX AI
Exact sourced dataset. It includes native, DLSS Balanced, FG-off and MFG x4 rows for Black Myth: Wukong and Cyberpunk 2077 at 2560×1600.
This evidence asymmetry is not evidence that the Vector is faster. The hardware specifications match on CPU, GPU tier and published TGP, while firmware, cooling, memory behavior and power modes still require a controlled same-protocol test.
Practical Differences
The Vector retail configuration has 2TB storage instead of 1TB, a 90Wh battery instead of 83Wh and a 2.7kg listed weight instead of 2.9kg. The Omen remains a comparable full-power alternative with upgradeable memory and the same published display class. Verify port selection, keyboard layout, SSD population and warranty for the exact listing.
Both panels are 2560×1600 240Hz IPS-type displays. HP lists 500 nits and 100% sRGB for the Omen Max with no HDR rating; MSI lists no brightness or HDR rating for the Vector, and Frandroid found its HDR limited to video playback. Labels are not controlled measurements; consult the display database and exact panel reviews before ranking image quality.
Compare the Cost of the Setup You Will Actually Use
Put both checkout totals beside the storage capacity you need. If the Omen's 1TB is enough, the Vector's extra terabyte may be convenient without being worth a large premium. If you know you need 2TB immediately, include the compatible SSD, installation or migration work and any external enclosure in the Omen's total. Do not assume a replacement drive is required: check the exact machine's slot occupancy and service instructions first.
A useful comparison is checkout total + necessary upgrades + required accessories. Add only costs you would actually incur. There is no fixed price difference at which one becomes the winner, because warranty terms, return options and your existing peripherals can change the decision. A seller-upgraded listing should also identify who performed the upgrade and who supports it.
Ports Can Decide a Desk-Based Purchase
MSI lists two Thunderbolt 5 ports, two USB-A ports and an SD 7.0 reader for the Vector A2XW family. That is relevant to a camera workflow or a desk using high-bandwidth peripherals. Match your specific dock and monitor requirements to the laptop's documentation; a connector name alone does not guarantee every resolution, refresh rate and charging combination.
For the Omen, verify B64BNUA#ABA's own port and display-output specifications before assigning it the capabilities of another Omen Max configuration. If your setup only uses an HDMI monitor, mouse and headset, additional connectivity may add little value. If it avoids buying a reader or replacing a dock, include that saving in the whole-setup comparison.
How to Compare Performance Without Mixing Test Modes
Start with the same game, patch, resolution and preset, with ray tracing and upscaling explicitly identified. Compare native results first where available. Keep Frame Generation and Multi Frame Generation results separate; they answer a different question from the base rendering rate and cannot establish a universal performance lead.
Both machines' published 175W limit is a ceiling, not a promise that a game sustains that draw. For a meaningful test, record the power profile, adapter, graphics mode and test duration as well as FPS. For your own purchase check, run a repeatable sequence long enough to see whether performance settles, and judge fan noise in the mode you intend to use. The missing matching Omen dataset remains a reason to withhold a performance verdict, not to assume a tie.
