Gaming Performance

Thermals and Noise

PCWorld tested the US 240Hz version, which shares the processor, graphics power and chassis with the 165Hz configuration covered here. It did not publish temperatures or decibel measurements. It reports that the fans are not unusually loud for a gaming laptop, that they exhaust from both the back and sides, and that the middle of the keyboard can get warm. In its extended Handbrake encode the laptop averaged 562 seconds, behind similar laptops that PCWorld suggests may have stronger cooling. FRAMELIMIT does not quote peak temperatures or noise levels for this configuration.

PCWorld also found the 115W RTX 5070 Ti only slightly ahead of the 115W RTX 5070 in the Alienware 16X Aurora, and attributes the small gap to the power limit.

Display & Build

The Canadian configuration uses a 16-inch 2560×1600 OLED panel at 165Hz and weighs approximately 2.3kg. Acer lists two memory slots, 1TB storage, and a microSD reader. PCWorld's brightness observation (up to about 400 nits) applies to the US 240Hz panel and is not transferred here. PCWorld describes an aluminum-looking lid with a mostly plastic body that feels solid. Its video playback test at 250 nits lasted 371 minutes on the 76Wh battery; gaming runtime was not reported.

Pros
  • 165Hz WQXGA OLED with a 12GB RTX 5070 Ti
  • 32GB DDR5 and 1TB storage in this configuration
  • User-upgradeable RAM and storage (PCWorld)
  • Rear HDMI 2.1, Thunderbolt 4, Ethernet and microSD
Cons
  • 115W GPU limit narrows the gap to 115W RTX 5070 laptops (PCWorld)
  • Sustained CPU encode behind similar laptops in PCWorld's test
  • Mostly plastic body; warm centre keyboard under load
  • Only one of the two USB-C ports is Thunderbolt 4
Our Verdict
The Acer Predator Helios Neo 16S AI is a strong option for buyers who prioritize a 115W RTX 5070 Ti and a 165Hz WQXGA OLED. Its recommendation depends on the current checkout price, exact model code, and seller warranty.
